James Gunn has provided a casting update regarding the DCU’s Wonder Woman.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that a Wonder Woman movie is officially in development at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. Ana Nogueira is writing the script, while no casting for the role of Diana Prince has yet been announced. There is also no director attached to the project at this time.
What did James Gunn say about Wonder Woman?
In 2024, Gunn was asked about how he feels about casting a Wonder Woman who is taller than both Batman and Superman. He answered at the time, “Not good. I don’t know where I’d find an accomplished and talented actress 6’5” or over.”
While the Batman role has not yet been cast, David Corenswet, who plays Superman in the DCU, is 6’4”.
On Threads, Gunn was recently asked what his thoughts on Diana’s height were in general and if he would cast someone under 5’9” in the role, should they be right for the part.
Gunn said, “I don’t think extreme height is the most important factor in casting WW. That’s all I said earlier as well. I never said I didn’t feel good about her being taller than Superman – I just said that would never be what I considered most important in her casting.”
For now, the Wonder Woman movie does not yet have a release date, and plot details remain under wraps. It’s unclear if Diana’s official DCU debut will be in the Wonder Woman movie or if she’ll show up in another project prior to that.
There is also a Wonder Woman-related show that is in development at DC Studios titled Paradise Lost; however, there haven’t been any major updates on that project in quite some time, as it was originally announced in January 2023.
