Doja Cat has opened up about her creative process and growth as a vocalist while promoting her upcoming album Vie.

Speaking in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the Grammy-winning artist expressed pride in her new body of work and revealed how she pushed herself beyond earlier limitations.

“I’m very excited,” Doja Cat said during the segment. “It’s things I wasn’t able to do before. I couldn’t hit certain riffs or runs—I used to joke about that and pretend to be a singer singer. But I sucked it up and stopped joking and took myself more seriously.”

The comments reflect a shift in Doja Cat’s approach to her music, as she moves from the playful experimentation of her earlier records toward more technically ambitious performances. Known for her ability to blend rap, R&B, and pop, the Say So hitmaker explained that Vie represents a new chapter where she leans into her vocal skills as much as her genre-bending style.

The album, which follows her successful 2023 release Scarlet, has already generated significant anticipation among fans. Early previews and teasers suggest that Doja Cat is experimenting with a mix of soulful ballads, sharp lyricism, and intricate vocal arrangements, marking a noticeable evolution in her artistry.

With Vie expected to drop later this year, her remarks on CBS Sunday Morning have sparked conversation online about her growth as a performer. Fans praised her candidness and said they look forward to hearing how her more serious approach translates into the album’s final sound.
