Priscilla Presley has revealed the four words she dreams of saying to her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, two years after her death.
The businesswoman and actress, who was married to Elvis Presley from 1967 to 1973 and shared Lisa Marie with him, wrote about her daughter’s death in her new book Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.
In the book, which was published today, Priscilla shared new details of her daughter’s passing in January 2023 and opened up about her grief. It comes after she recently spoke out about a “hurtful” lawsuit filed against her.
In one excerpt, Priscilla, 80, wrote about a dream she had which saw her walking down a road surrounded by lush trees while a young man in a navy pilot’s uniform followed her to make sure she was safe.
Her mother was walking with the man in the dream, asking Priscilla whether she had eaten dinner and urging her to rest before going on stage the following day.
“‘I’m sorry too, sweetheart.’ As she turns back around, I ask her, ‘Did you take your bath?’
“It is an old joke, and Lisa laughs. ‘Yes, Mom, I took my bath.'”
Lisa Marie died in January 2023 following a brief stint in hospital where doctors suspected she had a cardiac arrest.
It was later confirmed via her autopsy that she had died due to a small bowel obstruction, an intestinal blockage, which contributed to her heart issue.
The condition is often a complication of bariatric weight-loss surgery.
Talking to People, Priscilla confessed that Lisa Marie’s ex-husband, Danny Keough, had told her what was happening to Lisa Marie.
She said, “We were there all day long. Lisa really wasn’t breathing, so she was on the ventilator. For hours we were there waiting, hoping and praying until the doctor came in and said, ‘Priscilla, I’m so sorry, she’s gone.'”
Priscilla admitted she continues to struggle with the loss of her daughter, adding, “We just couldn’t believe it — didn’t want to believe it. It was hard on all of us, it still is.”
