Over half a century since Pink Floyd first started making music, the band remains one of the bestselling musical acts of all time — so it’s no surprise that the group’s remaining members are quite wealthy. But one member of Pink Floyd is reportedly worth more money than his former bandmates (as in, hundreds of millions more).
Originally founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Roger Waters, Pink Floyd’s lineup shifted to include David Gilmour after Barrett left the band in 1968 amid mental health struggles. Since Wright’s death in 2008 (and Barrett’s in 2006), only Mason, Waters, and Gilmour remain…and one of those men has a much bigger bank account than the others.
According to Finance Monthly, singer-songwriter/bassist Waters — who left Pink Floyd in 1985 — had a net worth of approximately $310 million as of July 2025, placing him very high on the list of the world’s richest rock stars. Gilmour and Mason, on the other hand, are said to have net worths closer to $180 million, per Wealthy Gorilla. So why is Waters so much wealthier?
Since Waters was the primary songwriter on most of Pink Floyd’s most commercially successful albums, he’s reaped the lion’s share of royalties, pulling in an estimated $8 to $10 million per year. Waters’ most lucrative endeavors have been his massive solo tours, however, with his 2010 The Wall Live tour in particular bringing in a whopping $459 million, per American Songwriter, making it one of the highest-grossing concert tours in history. Beyond tickets, Waters’ live outings also make millions by selling highly-collectible merchandise. (And, of course, Pink Floyd’s records just keep on selling, even all these years later.)
What does Roger Waters spend his money on?
Per Finance Monthly, Waters has an impressive real estate portfolio including a $15 million townhouse in Manhattan featuring a private recording studio, a $14 million beachfront compound on nearby Long Island, and an English countryside estate in Hampshire valued at approximately $12 million.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering Waters is one of the world’s biggest rock stars, he also seems to have a taste for luxury vehicles. His collection includes a vintage 1964 Aston Martin DB5 and a $3 million yacht named Echoes, like the Pink Floyd song. He does not, apparently, own his own plane, though he reportedly does spend thousands of dollars chartering private jets.
