John Boyega reveals what changes he would’ve made to his Star Wars trilogy

John Boyega has candidly revealed what he would have done differently if he were in charge of his Star Wars trilogy.

The British actor shot to fame with his starring role as former Stormtrooper Finn in the three sequel films, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, between 2015 and 2019.

Boyega, who has been vocal about his issues with the films over the years, has now told fans that the trilogy would have been “a whole completely different thing” if he’d been a producer from the beginning.

When asked by an audience member at Florida Supercon 2025 what changes he’d make if he were to remake those films, Boyega bluntly stated that he didn’t agree with legacy characters Han Solo and Luke Skywalker being killed off.

“It would be mad,” he said, reports Popverse. “First of all, we’re not getting rid of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, all these people. We’re not doing that. The first thing we’re going to do is fulfil their story, fulfil their legacy. We’re going to make a good moment of handing on the baton.”

He was particularly critical of Mark Hamill’s final moments as Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, saying, “Luke Skywalker wouldn’t be disappearing on a rock. Hell no. Standing there and he’s, like, a projector? I would want to give those characters way more way more.”

Boyega also took issue with some of the new characters’ powers, adding, “Our new characters will not be OP’d (overpowered) in these movies. They won’t just grab stuff and know what to do with it. No. You’ve got to struggle like every other character in this franchise. I’d do that.”

The trilogy also starred Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac. Ridley is expected to reprise her role as Rey for another movie.
