Country legend Kenny Chesney has paid a loving tribute to his long-time friend Brett James after the singer-songwriter died in a horrific plane crash last week.
The Grammy award-winning country singer died at the age of 57 in a plane crash in North Carolina that took the lives of all three individuals aboard. The single-engine Cirrus SR22T aircraft took off from John C. Tune Airport in Nashville and later unexpectedly crashed “under unknown circumstances in a wooded area” close to Iotla Valley Elementary School.
In the aftermath of the heartbreaking news, many have paid loving tributes to the star, who was a loving family man and father to four children. This week, Kenny shared a loving post in the singer’s memory after sharing many years of friendship and collaborating on some of his number 1 hits together.
In a lengthy X, formerly Twitter, post the 57-year-old artist penned, “A very difficult goodbye to my Brother Of The Sun Brett James. I haven’t wanted to post cause I didn’t want to believe it. Brett and I shared a unique bond. A Brotherhood. A kinship. We wrote Reality and Out Last Night on the same afternoon sitting on my pool deck in the Virgin Islands two days after Christmas.”
He continued, “We had a lot of authentic life fun writing songs together over the years and I’m sure going to miss it. It’s hard to process his creative soul being gone. This kind of loss. I feel as if part of my creative soul went with him.”
In the post, Kenny went on to include the lyrics from their 2020 hit song ‘Knowing You.’ He wrote, “God we were so alive / I was a kid on a carnival ride / Holding my breath til the moment you were gonna leave me to soon / But I’d do it all over cause damn it was good Knowing You.”
Along with his heartfelt words, Kenny included a series of shots of them together over the years including a picture of them on a sandy shore, a black-and-white action shot singing on stage together, and two snaps of James sitting and playing his acoustic guitar.
During Kenny’s career, the pair have co-written a number of songs together some of which include When the Sun Goes Down, Out Last Night, Reality, Just to Say We Did, Keg in the Closet, Spirit of a Storm, among many others. James is also famously known for his work with other famous country stars including Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban.
