Robert Irwin took the stage by storm with his first performance on Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars. And fans can’t wait to see what else he has in store.
While DWTS is known for its themed weeks, viewers are wondering whether or not Robert will dedicate a dance to his late father, wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin, who died nearly two decades ago at the age of 44.

Technically, yes! While not as explicitly about his father as his sister’s dance a decade ago (see below), Robert and his partner Witney Carson channeled their own Crocodile Hunter in their premiere dance. The two performed a Jive routine to Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Routine,” with Robert even starting the performance in his dad’s familiar all-khaki getup.

There’s a possibility that Robert could do a tribute to his late father during Dedication Night on Dancing With the Stars. According the list of Season 34’s weekly themes, that’s set to take place on Oct. 14.

Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, competed on Season 21 of DWTS, which aired in 2015. Bindi was paired with Derek Hough, and the twosome danced to “Every Breath You Take” to honor her late dad during the show’s “Most Memorable Year” theme. The performance not only had the audience in tears, but both Irwin and Hough broke down following their routine.
The dedication performance cemented them as a frontrunners during their eventual path to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

Will Robert Irwin dedicate a dance to sister Bindi Irwin on Dancing With the Stars?
There’s also a chance that Robert might pay homage to the Irwin who laid the path for him to come on DWTS in the first place! While he hasn’t dedicated a dance to Bindi yet, there’s a chance it may be coming down the pike.
“You have no idea how grateful I am to have Bindi go through this experience,” he toldUs Weekly. “Not only did she do Dancing with the Stars, she won Dancing with the Stars, and was just such an incredible shining light.”

And, of course, there’s mom Terri Irwin. Robert hasn’t dedicated a dance to her yet. But that may be because she’s jockeying to have her own run in the future!
“If Mom did it, I think she would show Bindi and [me] up,” he told Parade in an exclusive interview. “All bets are off. If she joins me on the season, I’m getting voted out first week. She’s going to make it all the way. She’s got the groove, absolutely.”

Who is Robert Irwin’s partner on ‘Dancing With the Stars’?
Robert was the first celebrity to be named to the Season 34 cast of DWTS in August 2025. He is paired with pro Witney Carson. In the premiere, the duo earned an impressive 15/20 points and tying for first place with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt and pro Mark Ballas.
When did Steve Irwin die?
Steve died after being attacked by a stingray on Sept. 4, 2006. Robert was only 2 years old at the time.
While speaking with People ahead of the Season 34 premiere of Dancing With the Stars, Robert opened up about his dad’s legacy and what he’d think of him competing on the long-running dance competition series.
“I think he always said it was really funny. He’d always go, ‘I don’t care if people remember me, I want people to remember my message and what I stand for,'” he said. “And I think people remember his message and him. I mean, he just showed what it was to truly live life at 100% and above anything else, he was just the greatest dad, always there for us.”
He added: “I just hope to keep his legacy alive, his spirit, his sense of just love for life, and so if I can bring that kind of energy into the ballroom and honor him and his legacy, then I’ve done my job.”
