Jon Bon Jovi has shared some memories of his late mother, Carol Bongiovi, expressing how proud he feels of her achievements during her career.
The rock and roll icon, 63, chatted about his family history with Bunnie Xo on the latest episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast.
One of the topics the singer discussed was how his parents, John Bongiovi, Sr. and Carol, met, as well as the fact that his mother, who passed away in July last year, as one of the original Playboy Bunnies.
He shared, “My mother and father met in the Marines… they met as Marines and she ran away.
“Well, didn’t run away, but she couldn’t wait to enlist, and said that the Marine Corps was nothing compared to her childhood. So she went and joined the Marines and meets my pop.”
Jon added, “It’s cool. I’ve seen pictures of her with Sinatra, and the whole thing with my dad there, and my uncle’s there, all hanging out in the Playboy Club.”
His parents later decided to move to Sayreville, New Jersey, to raise their family before settling in Holmdel where Carol lived until her death.
Carol passed away just three days before her 84th birthday last year, with Jon announcing the news.
“Our mother was a force to be reckoned with, her spirit and can-do attitude shaped this family. She will be greatly missed,” the Bon Jovi frontman said in a statement.
Carol was a staunch supporter of Jon’s legendary music career, even founding his band’s fan club. But she also led a vibrant life outside of her Grammy-winning son’s fame.
She owned several businesses and served in the U.S. Marine Corps starting in 1959, faithfully serving America until she “met her future husband, John Bongiovi Sr.”.
