Kate Middleton once shared a heartbreaking four-word admission about her relationship with one of her relatives. The Princess of Wales is an aunt to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
However, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having relocated to the US in 2020 – before their children were born – and distanced themselves from the Firm, it is not believed their royal relatives have spent much time with either Archie, six, or Lilibet, four. As reported by HELLO!, royal correspondent Danielle Stacey once said: “It has never been officially confirmed whether the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children have met Princess Lilibet.”
Kate did make it clear she had not spoken to her niece in the days following her birth on June 4, 2021.
In a TikTok posted by CBS News back in June 2021, Kate was asked whether she had any wishes for Lilibet.
“I wish her all the very best,” Kate said.
“I can’t wait to meet her, because we haven’t yet… met her yet, so hopefully that will be soon.”
The Princess of Wales was then asked if she had FaceTimed with her young niece. To this, she heartbreakingly responded: “No, I haven’t. No.”
Hopes that Harry’s relationship with his estranged family could be repaired were rekindled earlier this month when he met with his father, King Charles, for the first time since the monarch’s cancer diagnosis back in 2024.
The Duke of Sussex is said to have spoken to his father for 55 minutes, during which time he gave him a framed photograph of himself, Meghan and the two children.
The pair also exchanged kisses on the cheek and His Majesty handed his son a present in advance of his 41st birthday six days later.
The reunion was described as “distinctly formal” and Harry, 41, joked afterwards that he felt more like “an official visitor” to the royal residence.
The prince added in the days after the meeting that the “focus really has to be on my dad” in the next 12 months and rumours of a partial return to royal duties appear quashed for the time being.
His Majesty, 76, has not seen Archie and Lilibet since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, with Harry claiming it is not safe for them to fly back to the UK.
But in the recent interview with The Guardian, Harry said: “The focus really has to be on my dad… I have always loved the UK and I always will love the UK.”
