Prince Harry and King Charles reunited for a short meeting earlier this month, paving the way for reconciliation after years of tension.
The Duke of Sussex and his father had a private tea at Clarence House in London and their reunion lasted just under one hour as Harry, 41, had to leave to attend a reception for his Invictus Games.
Sources have claimed that the father-and-son duo exchanged pleasantries with kisses on the cheek and the prince even gave the monarch a framed photo of his and Meghan Markle‘s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, amid hopes the kids may visit their grandfather in the UK if Harry’s security needs are met.
Meanwhile, Charles gave his son an early birthday present as their reunion took place just days before Harry turned 41.
Despite speculation that Harry and Meghan were also in the photo, sources close to Harry denied it and told The Sun, ” While we would have preferred that elements of the meeting such as the exchange of gifts was not revealed, for clarification purposes gifts were exchanged and a photo from the Duke to his father was given but it was not of him and his wife.”
A spokesman for Harry said, “The trip back was about focusing on his patronages and supporting his good causes while also having time to catch up with family and friends.”
After the meeting, a Palace aide said the door remains open for Harry to return to visit his father – and royal expert Pauline Maclaran believes the recent reunion will cut down on “speculation.”
On top of that, the King may also be more inclined to help Harry with his security needs, meaning the duke would feel better, and safer, about traveling with his wife and children when in the UK, according to Pauline.
Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and Professor at Royal Holloway, said, “It would be much more likely that Harry would bring the grandchildren for a visit to the UK if his ongoing security concerns can be allayed.”
Earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting that Harry was contemplating sending six-year-old Archie to the elite Eton College in England – the school he attended – which is located near Windsor Castle.
But in a statement issued to The Mirror, the Duke’s team denied the rumors and said, “I can confirm that Prince Harry has not registered Archie for Eton, and the Duke has no plans to send his son to Eton.”
