Horror fans might not be talking about the upcoming Clayface movie enough. The famous Batman villain hasn’t been done in live-action, and it’s easy to see him just being some kind of CGI monstrosity.
However, it sounds like it won’t just be some CGI fest. With Mike Flanagan co-writing the script and Speak No Evil director James Watkins helming the film, it promises to be a true horror movie.
While CGI is used heavily in horror, all of the best horror films use practical effects. According to DC Studios head James Gunn, he’s loving what he’s seeing from the film and spoke about the visual effects.

“Some dallies I’ve seen … it’s just this old school body horror visual effects, it’s so cool,” Gunn said on The Morning After Pod.
With Flanagan writing, we know we’re getting a movie that will be thought-provoking and have great drama. With Watkins directing, we know the film with have a level of intensity.
It’s amazing to hear that they’re doing a lot of old-school practical effects. The movie will definitely have to have some level of CGI, but it sounds like it’ll be a mix. Clayface has a chance to be the first great comic book horror film.
