ROSÉ surprised fans by slipping a piece of ’90s rock history into her set, paying homage to one of the decade’s most beloved bands.
On Monday, BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ went on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Showto discuss what it was like winning the VMA for “Song of the Year” a couple of weeks ago for her hit song with Bruno Mars, “APT.,” moving to South Korea from Australia and then performed a set of songs from her debut solo album rosie and covers from her favorite artists such as Lana Del Rey and Paul Simon.
Towards the end of her singing hit song “toxic till the end,” the 28-year-old singer added a verse from Oasis’ “Wonderwall” to honor the rock band. Oasis was most popular during the mid-to-late 1990s, particularly between 1995 and 1997, with the release of their massively successful albums: (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now.
Born Roseanne Park in Auckland, New Zealand and raised in Melbourne, Australia, she is best known as a member of the global K-pop sensation BLACKPINK. After auditioning for YG Entertainment in 2012, she moved to South Korea to train, eventually debuting in 2016 as the group’s main vocalist and lead dancer. With BLACKPINK, ROSÉ has achieved international superstardom, topping charts, headlining festivals like Coachella, and becoming one of the most recognizable voices in K-pop. The other three members of BLACKPINK include JENNIE, LISA and JISOO.
BLACKPINK took a hiatus in 2023 after their Born Pink World Tour to focus on solo projects. In December 2024, ROSÉ released her debut solo album, which now has millions of streams. This past summer, BLACKPINK reunited and released their first song together as a group in two years, titled “JUMP,” and are currently in between legs of their Deadline World Tour. There are also rumors that the group will release an EP sometime in November.
On Tuesday, ROSÉ made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she appeared in the show’s cold open and played a game of charades with the late-night host, Tariq Trotte and Kate McKinnon.
