If you’re new to the Universal Basic Guys program, the show was created by Adam Malamut and Craig Malamut and follows two brothers, Mark and Frank Hoagies, from South New Jersey who are dealing with losing their hot-dog factory jobs to automation. The premise feels all too prevalent in 2025 with the rise of AI. At least we can get a laugh out of it to get through it together. With more free time on their hands and universal basic income still coming in, there is plenty of time for the brothers to get into plenty of trouble and shenanigans along the way.

This show premiered to strong numbers for the pilot last season, hitting more than four million households. This show has satirization in a modern way in our current climate of the workplace. While it might not be a great handbook to navigate this space, at least we can laugh about it together.
Tonight’s Season 2 premiere has probably the most representative title of Mark and Frank, and that is Episode 1 entitled “The Goofballs.” Mark has a wife Tammy who is a nurse and is divorced. She lost custody to her son Darren. He visits Mark and Tammy often throughout the show. Usually he spends most of his time playing video games, but in this season premiere we actually get to see him showing interest in playing hockey.
At least the video games will prep him tremendously in the hand-eye coordination department. Expect Mark to go all out and become a probably too-eager and overly-engaged hockey dad. Mark creates a team for Darren. Will his efforts be rewarded? Nothing goes wrong in animated comedies airing right after the Simpsons right?
