I saw a meme the other day in which Lucy from the Peanuts comic strip is leaning on Schroeder’s mini piano with words in a speech bubble over her head reading, “That’s enough Christmas music. Play some (Sonic Youth).”
That’s pretty much where I’m at. The Christmas CDs have been put away, and I’m ready to rock my way into 2026.
Plenty of opportunities to do that in Wilmington this weekend, from the 17th annual, 10-band hard rock music festival Lamefest at Reggie’s 42nd Street Tavern Jan. 9-10 to a big musical at Thalian Hall, “Rock of Ages,” celebrating the 1980s hair/glam metal era.
So whether you like to fully rock out, or rock out more sedately, there’s plenty of options for you this weekend, as you’ll see below.
Let’s get into it.
Weekend weather outlook
Should be pretty nice weather in Wilmington this weekend, especially for January. Partly cloudy Friday and Saturday with highs near 70 and a slight chance of rain. Cooler on Sunday, with a high in the mid-60s and a 50% chance of rain.
