He’s ridden motorcycles at 130 miles per hour, lived everywhere from Oklahoma to Japan, won a Grammy and gone from the Navy to playing stadiums in only four years. And as Zach Bryan looked out into the crowd of his sold-out show on Saturday night, he could hardly believe his eyes.

Staring out into the sea of adoring fans at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Bryan, 29, admitted to achieving a personal milestone in that very moment. “This might be the craziest thing I’ve ever done.”

The show reportedly sold over 112,000 tickets, making it the largest ticketed concert in United States history.

Michigan Stadium is the home of the Michigan Wolverines, the fans of which have dubbed the sprawling facility the Big House. Not only is it the largest venue in the United States, but it’s also the third-largest in the world.

Final ticket sales for Bryan’s record-setting performance aren’t official yet, but if estimates are correct, he’ll take the throne from George Straight, who previously held the record with just shy of 111,000 tickets sold.

The magnitude of the record-setting event was not lost on Bryan, who shouted, “Thank you so much for the best night of my life.” If Bryan sounded humbled, it was sincere.

Only a few short years ago, Bryan believed himself to be destined for a smaller spotlight. “I’m too writing-driven to be a big star,” he told Rolling Stone in 2022. “I’m not meant for it.” However, it seems that the only person who felt that way was Bryan himself.

It’s not only fans who find Bryan’s music so captivating and compelling — his peers feel the same. Acclaimed singer and songwriter John Mayer joined Bryan on stage for a cover of “Friend of the Devil,” a song originally written by the late Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead.

“Zach is the guy right now, carrying the torch,” Mayer said of Bryan to the audience of over 100,000 fans.

The Saturday night performance was the final show of Bryan’s summer tour, but one he’ll never forget.

“I’ll remember this forever, Michigan,” he told the crowd.
