With One Battle After Another being the buzziest film of the week, there’s been some interest in Leonardo DiCaprio’s wardrobe in the movie. Throughout the majority of the runtime, DiCaprio’s Bob Ferguson character is wearing a flannel robe, big sunglasses and a beanie.
One obvious inspiration for the character is The Dude from The Big Lebowski, who also wears a robe for much of that movie.
“Think about ‘The Dude,’ if he was put into a modern context and was a revolutionary,” DiCaprio said of the bathrobe, per USA Today. “We had a lot of discussions, because I have one costume. Bob’s got his cape: the red robe he was getting stoned in at home alone when giant forces tried to ruin his life.”
While the robe is the main piece of the ensemble, it’s hard to ignore the big sunglasses he has on. According to DiCaprio, that was inspired by a famous Star Wars character.
“There’s the weird ‘Star Wars’ theme to this movie,” DiCaprio said. “I had this vision of these wraparound optical glasses like Boba Fett. Those are the ones I had to choose.”
The whole outfit comes together to create an instantly iconic look that many cinephiles are likely to try and recreate for Halloween this year.
