The family show Little House on the Prairie has not aired new episodes in over four decades, but it still has a huge legion of fans. Some of the former stars of the show have been sharing fun tidbits of their time working on the series, and Karen Grassle just revealed a great one.
Grassle played the family matriarch, Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, on Little House on the Prairie. The series aired from 1974 to 1982. One of her co-stars, Katherine MacGregor, who played Harriet Oleson, became one of Grassle’s favorites to act with, and she explained why.
Little House on the Prairie star Dean Butler, who played Almanzo Wilder, recently chatted with Grassle about the show. They shared great memories and stories, and a new TikTok video showed them discussing MacGregor.
As fans of the show will remember, Harriet Oleson, who was Nellie Oleson’s mother, was a difficult woman. Ingalls, on the other hand, was very sweet. As they chatted, Grassle and Butler recalled one of the epic “egg scenes” from the show, which Grassle said was “so much fun.”
She recalled that MacGregor was “wonderful to work with,” and she especially liked that they both liked to rehearse. That love for rehearsing was what led the two women to hit it off with one another, Grassle explained.

Grassle added that the two actresses would “play off each other” and be ready for anything while filming their scenes. “We would run those egg scenes,” she recalled, and Butler interjected a hearty laugh as he thought about those particular scenes.
“It was really, really rewarding to be with such a fine actress,” Grassle said of MacGregor.
Butler said he “absolutely adored” MacGregor and noted he had never met anyone like her.

Little House on the Prairie fans loved the pair’s reflections about MacGregor and the show in general.
“She was so good! We loved to hate her but couldn’t deny what an incredible actress she was,” one TikTok user admitted.
“LOVE this inside info & scenes discussion bits. Could listen to these interviews for hours. Very precious,” commented a fan.
Someone else wrote, “It’s so nice for me to hear after 50 years of watching that you both really loved Katherine. You all are such good actors and I love you all forever!!”
Another fan noted they “Love their dynamic in that scene!”
