Marvel Zombies debuted on Disney+ on September 24, 2025, and quickly secured the top spot on the streamer’s most-watched list in the U.S. for its first three days, with strong viewership driving its success.

The four-episode TV-MA animated series surpassed Disney and Marvel’s internal expectations within its five-day launch window, with Marvel Studios sources confirming that Marvel Animation is already considering additional stories. Despite its short length and mature rating, the series ranked as one of Marvel Animation’s strongest openings to date.

Marvel Zombies starts strong on Disney+

Marvel’s previous animated hits include What If…? Season 1 and X-Men ’97, with the latter drawing four million viewers in its first five days (via Variety). Industry tracker FlixPatrol reported that Marvel Zombies also reached the global #1 position among series, overtaking Hulu’s Alien: Earth, and currently sits at #2 in the United States overall, just behind Pixar’s Elio.

The success is notable as it comes during a year when Marvel’s theatrical output, including Captain America: Brave New World ($415 million) and Thunderbolts* ($382 million), fell short of past highs. The series tells a story set in the Marvel Multiverse where a zombie virus devastates the superhero community. It features familiar characters in an R-rated survival narrative.

Despite launching with a 65–66% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, audience response has been stronger, with a 76% rating. The show follows Marvel Animation’s recent lineup of What If…?, X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Eyes of Wakanda.

Brad Winderbaum and Marvel executives have said that Season 2 plans are contingent on sustained viewership. Early signals suggest that the undead premise, the timing ahead of Halloween, and its distinct tone within the MCU have helped push the show to streaming success.

With survivors left at the end of Season 1, Marvel Zombies remains positioned for potential continuation.
