During an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Gibson shared that from the very first day on set, there was respect and chemistry between him and Steve Burton. Playing Michael was no walk in the park, but Burton, in a way, made the whole process less intimidating and helped him find his footing.
Gibson also shared a sweet story that shows just how deep his bond with Steve Burton really goes, long before he even auditioned for the role of Michael. During his initial scenes with Burton, Gibson pulled the Jason actor aside and said, “Yo dude, I just have to let you know, I technically named my dog after you.”
Naturally, Burton was confused and asked, “What are you talking about?” That’s when Gibson explained that his dog’s name is “Cloud”, inspired by the iconic protagonist of the Final Fantasy video game, voiced by Burton. Steve Burton was touched, saying he felt “honored.” Gibson joked that he might be the first person who not only named his dog after Burton’s character but also got the chance to tell him in person.
Gibson also pointed out that while Steve Burton’s on-screen persona might come off as tough, stern, and serious, the real Burton is a totally different person once the cameras stop rolling. Praising Burton, Gibson said, “But in real life, he’s a bro, he’s a buddy. He’s got the energy, he’s got the hype, he’s fun, he’s there to have a good time. I couldn’t say a single bad thing about Steve! He’s the man.”
