Movie posters for the flick Jay Kelly list George Cooney over costar Adam Sandler, but insiders say the comic is winning rave reviews for his performance, leaving suave leading man George green with envy and fearing he’s being outdone by the former Saturday Night Live alum.
The comedy-drama film stars 64-year-old Clooney in the title role of an aging movie star with Sandler, 59, as his manager, and explores their friendship as they travel through Europe reflecting on the choices, successes and mistakes they made during their lives.
Sources say the glowing response toward Sandler — and not Clooney — is annoying gorgeous George.

According to the insider, Adam “unquestionably” nabbed better reviews for the movie and is seen as a lock for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination while the feeling is George seems to be playing himself and not stretching at all.
“Sure, it’s nice that Adam is now firmly in the Oscar race, but that seems to have come at the expense of George’s own plans for this award season,” says an insider.
“This was not the outcome George wanted and his whole year has been building toward this release. George still has many weeks before the movie shows up on Netflix, and the question now is what kind of effort he will put in when the critics have already decided Adam is the movie’s standout performer.”

The sources note that Sandler “doesn’t get caught up in showbiz rivalries like this, but George, even at this stage of his life, is still susceptible to getting his ego bruised, and that’s what’s happened here.”
“There’s not a lot he can do about it except try to be his usual charming self as he makes his rounds and resist the urge to go back to Italy and leave the publicity to Adam and the rest of the cast.”
“Jay Kelly is a fine movie, but it’s not the Best Actor slam dunk that George and his team wanted and needed. If George really needs a Best Actor nomination for this role, he’s going to have to dance for it, and that’s the last thing he wants to do.”
