Wrestling entertainment in N Arlington and more things to do

Happy October! As the temperatures come down and the leaves start to change, there are always fun things to do both indoors and outdoors.

This weekend there is the Independent Wrestling Federation in North Arlington, the Meadowlands Birding Festival, a car show in Lyndhurst, a 10K in Edgewater, the Teaneck Farmers’ Market, and the Jefferson Township Museum open house.

Plus, there’s always music, with Ana Popovic and Coco Montoya at Newton, the Maywood Battle of the Bands, Rocktoberfest in Ringwood and Wonderloaf in West Milford.

According to the National Weather Service:

Oct. 2: Sunny and breezy with a high in the mid-60s. Partly cloudy at night with a low around 50.

Oct. 3: Mostly sunny with a high in the low 70s. Mostly clear at night with a low in the mid-50s.

Oct. 4: Sunny with a high in the upper 70s. Mostly clear with a low in the mid-50s.

Teaneck Farmers’ Market

Your last chance this season to visit the market at the Cedar Lane municipal parking lot is Oct. 2. The market features farm fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, pickles, olives, baked goods, honey, jams, gourmet prepared foods, empanadas, cheese, nuts, dried fruits and more. No pets allowed.

Antique car show in Lyndhurst

Mayor Robert Giangeruso and the Lyndhurst Board of Commissioners invite the public to the town’s fourth annual antique car show on Oct. 4 at Town Hall Park, featuring live music by the Cameos. Food and beverages will be available. Trophies will be awarded in each vehicle class category.

Rocktoberfest in Ringwood

Ringwood’s first ever Rocktoberfest on Oct. 4 will include live music, food, craft beer, kids’ activities, and 50/50 and ATV raffles (with proceeds going to the Skyline Lake Fire Department).

Maywood Battle of the Bands

Local bands will battle for cash prizes at this event presented by the Maywood Recreation Department on Oct. 4 at the Memorial Park Bandshell. There will be food and a beer garden.

IWF wrestling event – ‘I Will Not Break’ – in North Arlington

For the fifth year in a row, IWF makes its return to North Arlington High School with this Oct. 4 event. Witness these athletes compete for the IWF Heavyweight, American, Tag Team and Women’s Championships − all to benefit the Michael Robert Cammett Jr. Memorial Foundation. Headliners include Master of Chaos Kevin Knight, Dark Oracle Sage, All-American Atkins Triplets (Brian, Robert and Chip), First-Class Justin Adams, The Standard Bearer Chris Steeler, East Side Dave, Phat Daddy Biggie Biggs, Heavyweight Sean Royal, American Bulldog Ken Reedy, Patrick Sanchez, Prince Malcolm, Ezon Leverett, All-Star Michele Dee, The Iron Woman Skylar and El Famoso Eloy Fiesta.

The foundation was established in memory of IWF Hall of Famer Golden Boy Michael Cammett, a 2015 graduate of North Arlington High School who died in 2021. “I Will Not Break” is presented by IWF Media. Supporters include North Arlington Board of Education; Teamsters Local 641 in Union; Ryan Philip of Longbridge Financial in Bloomfield; Olde School Title Services in Nutley; American Made Custom Cabinet Company in Nutley: JoJo’s Pizza and Pasta Kitchen in Lyndhurst; Ocean Beach Sales and Rentals in Lavallette; and Nutley Chamber of Commerce.

Wonderloaf plays classic rock in West Milford

Wonderloaf returns to J&S Roadhouse on Oct. 4 to play some classic rock. Got a favorite song? They say they’ll play it, and even throw in some interpretive dance moves if you ask nicely.

Ana Popovic and Coco Montoya at Newton Theatre

Popovic blends electric funk and slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals and a blues groove with soulful vocals. Nominated for seven Blues Music Awards, Popovich performed on the 2014-18 lineups for the Experience Hendrix tour. In a career that spans almost four decades, Montoya has gone from drumming for Albert Collins to holding the lead guitar spot in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, to leading his own band and touring worldwide with the new “Writing On The Wall.”

Meadowlands Birding Festival in Lyndhurst

On Oct. 5, the day will begin at Harrier Meadow with a bird banding demonstration, and then the remainder of the event takes place at the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park, with a walk at Saw Mill Creek; a presentation, “What’s New in the Meadowlands?” by Terry Doss, co-director of the Meadowlands Research and Restoration Institute; “Birdability,” a program that will explore birding for those with mobility, sight and developmental challenges; Marsh Discovery Trail Walks; a live raptor show with Giselle Smisko, director of the Avian Wildlife Center; a presentation, “Photography as a Conservation Tool and Ethical Conservation Photography,” by Sydney Walsh, staff photographer at the National Audubon Society; beginners nature photography with Joe Koscielny; and a presentation, “Losen Slote Creek Park – Urban Wilderness,” by Don Torino, president of the Bergen County Audubon Society. There will also be live music by Steve Kelman, as well as children’s activities.

Hudson River Waterfront Walkway 10K

This inaugural event on a flat USATF-certified course along the Hudson River Walkway, with views of the Manhattan skyline, will start in Edgewater and end in Weehawken on Oct. 5. NY Waterways will ferry all participants back to Edgewater for award ceremonies and festivities. Free parking will be provided at Edgewater’s Veteran’s Field.
