It’s finally October, and so while people have been prepping with pumpkin spice lattes and early visits to Spirit Halloween, we’re now in the official countdown to that hallowed holiday.

One of the most popular Halloween traditions is turning on a scary movie. Here’s a look at 10 of the best and how to watch them:

How to watch “Alien”

This is Ridley’s Scott’s 1979 masterpiece that kicked off a massive extraterrestrial franchise. After investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin, a spacecraft’s redrew inadvertently brings a deadly being onboard.

“Alien” is available to stream for subscribers of Hulu.

How to watch “Beetlejuice”

This is the first spooky, feature-length, theatrically-released movie Tim Burton directed. After their untimely death, the ghosts of a couple try to take their home back with the help of a malicious spirit.

“Beetlejuice” is available to stream for subscribers of AMC+ and HBO Max.

How to watch “Dawn of the Dead”

A big name in zombie pop culture, “Dawn of the Dead” was a classic released in 1978 by George A. Romero and was remade in 2004 with Zack Snyder directing and James Gunn writing. Both feature survivors of a zombie epidemic taking refuge in a shopping mall.

The original movie is available in HD for pretty cheap on Amazon where you can rent it for $2.89 and buy it for $7.29. The remake is available to stream for subscribers of Starz.

How to watch “Frankenstein”

It’s had many movies, but the Frankenstein monster’s first and debatably best film appearance was in 1931’s “Frankenstein.” The black-and-white classic showcases Dr. Henry Frankenstein assembling parts of different corpses to create life, only for his creation to turn out murderous.

“Frankenstein” is available to stream for subscribers of Prime Video. It’s also cheap on VOD services like AppleTV and Fandango At Home: About $4 to rent and $8 to buy.

How to watch “Get Out”

The first movie Jordan Peele directed was a cultural phenomenon. “Get Out” tells the story of a young Black man who visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.

The movie is available to stream for subscribers of HBO Max. It costs $4 to rent on VOD and a low $8 to buy.

How to watch “Halloween”

Serial killer Michael Myers was first brought to life in 1978’s “Halloween” after he escaped a mental hospital and returned to the town of Haddonfield to wreak havoc. Rob Zombie rebooted the movie with the same title in 2007, and the first film got a legacy sequel by the same name in 2018.

The first movie is available to stream for subscribers of Fubo, SHUDDER, and AMC+ as well as being free with ads on Plex, Mometu, and Fawesome. The Rob Zombie version is available to stream for subscribers of AMC+ and is free with ads on the Roku Channel and Fawesome. The 2018 movie is available to stream for subscribers of Hulu, Fubo, and is on FXNow if you have an applicable TV provider.

How to watch “It”

Perhaps the scariest clown in cinema is Pennywise, the child-killing shape shifter. While he was first brought to the screen in a 1990 miniseries, his first movie was “It” in 2017 when a group of kids in 1989 band against him.

It’s available to stream for subscribers of HBO Max.

How to watch “Scream”

The first “Scream” movie is not only a horror movie classic, it’s perhaps the ultimate satire of the horror classics that came before. In it, a masked killer goes after multiple high school students and staff, with a special fixation on the daughter of a murder victim.

“Scream” is available to stream for subscribers of Hulu and Peacock.
