Toni Braxton is stepping into a new role—front and center on Lifetime’s movie slate.
Deadline is reporting that the Grammy winner will headline two upcoming projects for the network, both tied to some of her most iconic hits.
First up is He Wasn’t Man Enough, inspired by her 2000 chart-topping single. The film premieres November 22 at 8/7c as part of Lifetime’s “Love of a Lifetime” November programming.
Braxton stars as Mel Montgomery, a bestselling author blindsided when her boyfriend Richard (Thomas Cadrot, The Night Agent) betrays her.
Things get more complicated when she learns Richard is engaged to her former college friend Monica (Essence Atkins, First Wives Club). Together with her ride-or-die best friend Candy (Yvette Nicole Brown, Community), Mel and Monica push past old rivalries to unite against Richard’s lies.
The story flips the script on heartbreak by centering solidarity instead of revenge. And for fans of the original single, the title is more than a nod—it’s the backbone of the plot.
When “He Wasn’t Man Enough” first dropped, it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent four weeks at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.
Braxton’s second film under the deal, Breathe Again, debuts in 2026 and reunites her with Atkins, alongside Emmy winner Cree Summer (A Different World, Rugrats).
The movie follows Jennifer (Braxton), Vanessa (Summer), and Evelyn (Atkins)—three contestants on a reality dating show who all walk away with broken hearts. Their shared rejection leads to an unexpected bond that takes them from Los Angeles to Seattle, where they rebuild careers, relationships, and a sense of self. Jennifer returns to music, Vanessa restarts her design business, and Evelyn works through grief by chasing joy.
Both projects are produced by Braxton alongside Tanya Lopez and Kenneth Crear for Lifetime, with Stan Brooks serving as director and executive producer.
He Wasn’t Man Enough also features production from Lighthouse Pictures, with a script by Aireka Muse, Tara Knight, and Angela Nissel. Breathe Again is written by Nikita Hamilton and executive produced by Howard Braunstein.
