Rudy Gobert’s Ex Writes Letter to Future Child About ‘Betrayal’ After Split

Julia Bonilla, the ex girlfriend of Minnesota Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert, opened up in a candid letter following her split from the NBA center.

Bonilla posted a deeply personal message via social media on Wednesday, October 1, writing directly to her unborn child.

“You were wanted. You were chosen. You were meant to be,” she began. “I was tested in every way a woman can be tested and still, I chose love. You are proof that even after betrayal, after storms, after pain, life can still grow in light. No matter how dark the world tries to be, no matter the lies, the cowardice, no matter how much they tried to break me, you’ll always have a mother who stands unshaken and will protect you forever.”

Bonilla continued “Because at the end, it’s always gonna be us, you, your brother, and me. Always and forever.”

The post served as the latest development in Bonilla and Gobert’s breakup, which has played out publicly over the past several months.

Bonilla and Gobert first went public in early 2024, when they announced they were expecting their first child together. Their son, Romeo, was born in May during the NBA playoffs, with Gobert missing a postseason game to be at the hospital.

But by spring 2025, the relationship had begun to fracture. According to TMZ Sports, Gobert kicked Bonilla, while pregnant, and their son out of his home without warning near the start of the NBA playoffs.

Bonilla seemingly responded to the news in an emotional post on social media at the time.

“I’m going through one of the most painful times in my life, feeling isolated, far from my family and friends,” she wrote via her Instagram Story. “I considered Rudy the love of my life. I left everything for him. I gave him a child and poured my heart into our relationship.”

She continued, “When everyone criticized and insulted him, I stood by him, always putting him first and choosing him, always. Despite how I have been treated, I choose to protect his name for the sake of my children. I have NEVER EVER been unfaithful to the father of my children. I am a mom and I must prioritize my health and well-being. Thank you for respecting my privacy during this challenging time.”

Gobert responded days later with his own post, confirming the split and calling for discretion.

“A lot of inaccurate information out there. Julie and I are currently in the painful process of redefining our co-parenting relationship,” Gobert wrote. “Being a father is one of the most profound and meaningful experiences I will get to live. It is one of my most important life purposes and will be so forever. I’m fully committed to keep supporting the well-being of all the people that I care about. Please refrain from speculating and respect our privacy.”

Around the same time, Gobert shared a photo with Romeo via Instagram Story, captioned simply: “Great day.”

Bonilla further expanded on her issues with Gobert in August, writing “a man that can betray the woman who carried his child will betray anyone.”

“Imagine living in a nightmare for months, trying to reason with a narcissist, just wanting peace and a roof over your head for your children and yourself only to end up, at 28, living at your father’s house when you once had everything because of YOURSELF,” Bonilla shared via her Instagram Story, according to Sportskeeda. Facing horrible, false rumors, when all I ever gave this man was love.”

Bonilla concluded her post, “I’m sorry, but at some point, does this sound okay to anyone?”
