Despite releasing on March 4, 2022, The Batman remains the latest entry in DC’s longstanding lineup of live-action Batman movies. However, the release date is set for the film’s long-anticipated sequel. While this information has been known, fans pointed out that we’re officially two years away from the October 1, 2027, release date. Nevertheless, the director Matt Reeves has assured fans it will be worth the wait.
Like Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, The Batman is a grittier, more realistic take on the Caped Crusader. Robert Pattinson’s Batman has only just begun his journey as Gotham’s titular crimefighter, which is brilliantly executed throughout the movie. Pattinson’s Batman is far from perfect, but that’s what makes his version of the character so likable. In attempting to fix his various mistakes, he easily becomes more endearing to the audience than any previous version of the character.
The Batman: Part II will likely see Pattinson’s Batman progress from fledgling crimefighter to the World’s Greatest Detective that fans know and love. However, Matt Reeves’s second Batman film is likely to continue the duology’s more realistic tone. While there was a rumor that Clayface was slated to appear as the film’s villain, James Gunn has since stated the villain would be better utilized in other DCU projects.
Even though it’s more than likely that The Batman is in a separate universe from the DCU, Gunn likely wants to avoid using the same characters as much as possible. Nevertheless, some fans are still convinced that Pattinson’s Batman will appear alongside prominent DCU characters like John Cena’s Peacemaker and David Corenswet’s Superman. However, Gunn has dashed these hopes more than once via X.
Ultimately, many DC fans are excited for the upcoming Batman film, regardless of whether it exists in the mainline DCU continuity or not. Matt Reeves’s Batman is one of the most interesting and nuanced versions of the character to hit the silver screen. Audiences everywhere can’t wait to see the conclusion of this epic duology, even if it is releasing nearly five years after the original.
