“Late Night” host Seth Meyers laid into supporters of Donald Trump over their continued belief that the president is being honest with them about the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
“He keeps claiming that the U.S. has already won the war with Iran, even though – and I don’t know if you’ve heard this – the war is still happening,” Meyers said before playing a clip from Sunday of Trump boasting to reporters that the U.S. controls the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran doesn’t “control anything.”
Meyers explained that the opposite of what Trump claimed is actually true, and that the president’s supporters are having an increasingly difficult time understanding the reality of the situation. He then played a clip from Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, where she seemed utterly befuddled that Iran could still strike U.S. assets in the Middle East, despite its military being “obliterated” as Trump continuously claims.
“Oh man, I would just give yourself a minute to break that down on your own and see what you come up with,” Meyers said. “How can they fight this way when the president told us they can’t fight this way? Anything? You think maybe he’s fucking lying to you?”
