The Who played what was billed as their final North American show on their farewell tour on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, Calif., but it turns out that Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend weren’t quite done yet.

The Who were just one of the featured acts on a bill of rock legends that played a backyard charity concert in Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 3 for Teen Cancer America, which was founded by Daltrey and Townshend, and UCLA Health Center.

Others on the bill include d Cheap Trick, Peter Frampton, Def Leppard, John Fogerty and the Doobie Brothers. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder wasn’t officially on the bill, but he made guest appearances with the Who and Fogerty.

The lineup was shared on X by radio and TV personality Matt Pinfield, who posted along with a photo of the bill, and wrote, “This was last night…. EPIC backyard concert.”

The Who played a seven-song set opening with “I Can’t Explain” and concluding with “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Baba O’Riley.” Vedder joined them for their fifth song of the night, “The Kids Are Alright,” per setlist.fm.

Some well-known figures lucky enough to attend the event shared photos, videos and information about the event on social media.

Def Leppard News posted live from the event, and shared photos of Cheap Trick, Frampton, the Who with Vedder, and Def Leppard’s acoustic set.

Pinfield posted some other photos, including one that appeared to be a goody bag that listed the artists on the bill along with the caption, “The greatest backyard concert ever last night that Roger and Pete of THE WHO put together for the teenage cancer trust that saves children’s lives. It was incredible.”

He also shared a photo with Vedder, along with a lengthy caption that touched upon his recent health struggles and how Pearl Jam’s music helped pave the way for his recovery.

“Let me tell you how much I love @eddievedder and @pearljam, their most recent album was the soundtrack of my last year. I played every song on that record on the radio many times. In fact when I came out of the coma and the second hospital and finally got back on the radio to do my first show I ended that show with the final song on ‘Dark Matter’ titled. ‘Setting Sun.’ It was so great to get to talk to Eddie last night about our mutual love of the Who. And he performed. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT” with Pete and Roger. Then he performed with another one of my heroes. @johnfogerty doing ‘Fortunate Son.’ I can’t wait for the next record and group of songs he comes up with. One of my favorite singers, songwriters, and performers Ed is a national treasure. thank you for snapping this picture of us Eddie. You helped make an epic night unforgettable,” Pinfield wrote.

The celebrity attendees included NBA legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Cooper, who posed for a photo with Frampton and his son Julian, which Frampton shared on his Instagram account.
