Rose Byrne shared her thoughts about the possibility of a sequel to 2015’s Spy. Following the movie’s success 10 years ago, there has been very little news about a follow-up movie. But considering what Byrne had to say about it, fans may have to wait a lot longer before a sequel materializes.

Rose Byrne expresses interest in Spy sequel

During a recent interview with ET at the New York Film Fest, Rose Byrne was asked why there hasn’t been a Spy sequel yet.

“Let’s get it started, I agree. I think there was supposed to be one in the works, but it never eventuated,” Byrne revealed. “I love that film. It’s been rediscovered more and more. People have come up to me and gone, ‘I really love that movie.’ It’s an absolute, like, treasure. It’s such a fun watch. [Jason] Statham’s so funny. It’s like, my husband’s in it—Bobby [Cannavale]. It’s so funny.”

When asked if she had a pitch for Paul Feig, the writer and director of the original movie, Byrne responded humorously, saying, “I’m going to get one. Tonight’s the night. I’m going to try to come up with one tonight. That’s going to be my goal.”

The movie was received well in terms of both box office numbers and audience reviews. Given its success and popularity, fans expected it to become a franchise. While the actress has expressed her interest, there has been no official news about a sequel even after 10 years of its release.

Released in 2015, Spy is a slapstick comedy with Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jude Law, and Jason Statham in the lead roles. The story follows Susan Cooper, a desk-bound CIA analyst who assists field agent Bradley Fine remotely.

When Fine is killed on a mission involving a stolen nuclear device, Susan volunteers to go undercover to track down the arms dealer’s daughter, Rayna. Despite being inexperienced in the field, Susan undertakes the mission with support from her friend Nancy.
