Although the content of the speech was not revealed, some articles claimed that she overshadowed the bride. So, Swift cleared the air on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show.”
The host asked if the “Cruel Summer” soloist joked about Gomez “beating her to the altar” in the wedding speech. Swift mentioned that she made sure not to mention anything about her engagement with Travis Kelce at the nuptials. “So I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” she said.
The global pop star quipped, “Nobody wants you to be like, ‘Hey, I know this is your wedding day, but I’m [engaged]!’”
Furthermore, she explained that she didn’t mention her engagement and even turned her ring around. She said that it was the former Disney star’s day. Instead of the proposal news, Swift mentioned their 2008 fashion style in the wedding speech.
“I talked a little about 2008, and I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me,” the Grammy Awards-winner stated.
Swift also mentioned how “elegant” and “gorgeous” the bride looked. She called her friend a “vision” and said that she had never seen “anything so beautiful” like Gomez seemed on her wedding day. She also praised her pal’s now-husband, Benny Blanco, saying he’s “funny.”
