James Gunn’s HBO Max show Peacemaker is one of the highest-rated DC Comics live-action projects ever, and season 2 is about to end with a bang.
The show, starring John Cena, has become must-see TV every Thursday night for fans worldwide, and the second season is taking the show to new heights. Fans know they can watch to see hilarious jokes and insults, intense fight scenes and violence, and heart-wrenching drama every week on the show.
With one episode left in the second season, here’s everything you need to know about the show.

What is ‘Peacemaker’?
Created by James Gunn, Peacemaker is a superhero TV show set in the DCU. It is currently airing its second season on HBO Max.
What is ‘Peacemaker’ about?
Peacemaker follows the titular superhero and his alter ego, Chris Smith, shortly after the events of 2021’s The Suicide Squad. In the show, Smith is forced to join the government organization A.R.G.U.S. and, in season 1, helps investigate parasitic butterfly creatures. In season 2, Smith discovers a parallel world where he, his brother, and father are celebrated superheroes.
It follows Smith as he tries to balance his vigilante life and civilian life while growing from trauma and dealing with past mistakes.
What is ‘Peacemaker’ based on?
The Peacemaker is a comic book character originally owned by Charlton Comics and later acquired by DC Comics. Originally named Christopher Smith, he was initially a pacifist envoy to the Geneva Arms Conference who was “loves peace… so much so that he is willing to fight for it.”
When Charlton Comics went out of business, DC Comics acquired the company, including heroes such as Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, The Question, and Judomaster.
In Alan Moore’s Watchmen, the character of The Comedian is based on The Peacemaker.
Who stars in ‘Peacemaker’?
John Cena reprises his role as Chris Smith from The Suicide Squad. He is joined by Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Chris’s white supremacist father, and Nhut Le as Judomaster.
Chukwudi Iwuji starred in season 1 as Clemson Murn, and Frank Grillo joined as Rick Flag Sr. in season 2. Season 2 also features Tim Meadows, Sol Rodriguez, Michael Rooker, and David Denman.
Is Peacemaker gay?
In season 1 of Peacemaker, viewers learn that the character had a threesome with his male friend Vigilante and that he had sex with men while in prison. Later, when he’s fighting with his father, his dad yells at Chris for sleeping with “whores of polluted blood” and men.
James Gunn later told Empire that the character naturally became queer as the show developed.
“John does improv all the time, and he just turned Christopher Smith into this hyper-sexualized dude that is open to anything sexually,” he said. “I was surprised by that. But I thought, ‘I guess it makes sense that this guy isn’t one-dimensional.'”
In season 2, Chris is seen having a pansexual orgy. In a promo video, Cena also revealed that if Chris had to cancel a Tinder date, “he would just go to Grindr to find another date. The great thing about Peacemaker is that all apps are welcome, all the time.”
Who else is gay in ‘Peacemaker?’
Leota Adebayo, who works alongside Chris and becomes his best friend, is a lesbian and has storylines involving her girlfriend in both seasons. Judomaster, real name Rip Jagger, is played by out actor Nhut Le, and in the second season, he indicates that he is gay as well. Vigilante has been involved in group sex with Chris, but also seems to have his own, unique view on sex.
After Vigilante isn’t invited to Chris’s orgy in season 2, Chris tells him he doesn’t “even seem that into sex.”
“I’m into sex because, like a lot of people, it’s an opportunity to bond with my best friend,” he replies.
What’s happening in season 2 of ‘Peacemaker?’
So far, six of the seven episodes of season two have aired. In this season, Chris found out that some of his dad’s secret technology leads to an alternate parallel earth where he and his family are happy and celebrated as heroes. Wanting to leave his own life behind, Chris starts spending more and more time in the alternate world.
At the same time, Rick Flag Sr. has taken over A.R.G.U.S. and is using it to track down and arrest Chris for killing his son while on the mission in the film The Suicide Squad.
Unfortunately, in the latest episode, viewers learned that the alternate world is one where Nazis won World War II.
The second season finale airs on HBO Max on Thursday, October 9.
