Claim:

Country music icon Willie Nelson memorialized slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a song titled “Let’s Make Heaven Crowded.”

Rating:

A rumor that circulated online in October 2025 claimed country music icon Willie Nelson memorialized slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a song titled “Let’s Make Heaven Crowded.” Snopes received reader emails and searches about this matter. One user messaged, “Did Willie Nelson actually write a song memorializing Charlie Kirk?”

On Oct. 1, a user managing a Facebook page named The Best Of Retro Music posted (archived) an collage with a photo of Kirk and an image of Nelson seemingly deep in thought while writing a song. That post, and its top comment, featured a link that redirected to an advertisement-filled article on a WordPress blog.

The post read, in part:

At 92, Willie Nelson unveils a powerful new song inspired by Charlie Kirk’s phrase, “Let’s Make Heaven Crowded.” Though released quietly, the response has been overwhelming — fans worldwide describe it as chilling, unforgettable, and unlike anything they’ve heard before. With praise flooding in and calls for an official release growing louder, Nelson’s heartfelt tribute is already being hailed as one of his most moving works in decades.

[…]

With his weathered voice carrying both faith and sorrow, Willie Nelson poured his heart into “Let’s Make Heaven Crowded,” transforming Charlie Kirk’s words into an anthem of hope.

“It’s about love, it’s about eternity,” Nelson shared softly.

Fans have called it one of the most hauntingly beautiful tributes of his career, proving that even at 92, Willie’s music still speaks with unmatched truth and timeless grace.

Users also shared the claim, as well as a YouTube video (archived) featuring the alleged song, in other posts on Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived), and X (archived).

Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no news media outlets reporting about Nelson memorializing Kirk in song, or mentioning the Turning Point USA co-founder at all. Prominent outlets would have widely reported this rumor, if true. Nelson’s own official social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X, as well as his website, featured no posts mentioning Kirk or any new songs inspired by him. (The Yahoo search produced an artificial intelligence-generated answer above results falsely claiming, “Willie Nelson and Charlie Kirk collaborated on a song titled ‘The Last Cowboy.'”)

Whoever authored the rumor fabricated the claim as one of hundreds of inspirational tales that depicted celebrities and athletes performing inspiring acts of kindness. They aimed to earn ad revenue on the websites linked from the aforementioned Facebook posts.

Snopes contacted a Nelson representative to obtain official confirmation of the falsehood, as well as a page manager for The Best of Retro Music to confirm their page’s monetary purpose, and will update this story if we receive further information.

Digging into the rumor

An examination of the Facebook page The Best of Retro Music found multiple indications of AI-generated images, as well as other false rumors. For example, the writers of other posts misleadingly claimed country stars George Strait (archived) and Dolly Parton (archived) paid tribute to Kirk. Thosee posts’ images — like the one of Nelson — visibly showed an overly-smooth appearance on the singers’ skin — one of many modern-day signs of AI-generated images.

The bio for The Best of Retro Music’s Facebook page displayed its owners’ location as Phoenix, while its “page transparency” tab showed only five page managers residing in Vietnam.

The article shared in the Facebook post for The Best of Retro Music also exhibited signs of AI generation. For example, the story ended on a forward-thinking, inspirational note — a hallmark of modern-day AI writing. That ending read:

As the world waits, one thing is clear: Willie Nelson has once again bridged the gap between music and meaning. By taking Charlie Kirk’s phrase and giving it voice, he has crafted not just a song but a legacy—something that will live on long after the final note fades.

It is not simply music. It is a message. A reminder that in life’s brevity, what endures is love, compassion, and the shared hope of making heaven, indeed, crowded.

Further, the aforementioned YouTube video allegedly featuring the Nelson song “Let’s Make Heaven Crowded” displayed a text description from a user, reading in part, “Original lyrics by me. Voice and music were made using AI.”

A Facebook search located other false posts from days following Kirk’s shooting death on Sept. 10, which either misleadingly alleged Nelson memorialized or otherwise paid tribute to Kirk, or attacked him by saying, “If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind words when you’re alive.” Those false posts also featured AI-generated content, as well as links leading to ad-filled articles on external websites.

Such stories all very much resemble glurge, which Dictionary.com defines as stories “that are supposed to be true and uplifting, but which are often fabricated and sentimental.”

For further reading, Snopes previously reported on a story claiming Kirk once stopped his car on a dark highway to help change a transgender man’s tire.
