Ben Lewis was diagnosed with bowel cancer in February 2024. The disease was revealed to be incurable in a GoFundMe page created to support the actor. Social media was rife with tributes to the late actor and reactions to his demise from both fans and colleagues.

Lewis hailed from a family of opera singers. He pursued vocal studies at both London’s Royal College of Music and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. During the early 2000s, he starred in several stage productions based in Sydney. These include Urinetown, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and A Little Night Music.
