EXCLUSIVE: Tulsa-based genre specialist Firebook Entertainment has announced the official launch of its production division as its first original feature Every Heavy Thing heads to the Sitges Film Festival this month.

The company has previously focused on the acquisition, sale, and theatrical distribution of elevated genre movies, although its CEO and co-founder John Moss has several EP credits on film such as Párvulos, The Ghost (An Taibhse), Dirty Boy, In the Flesh, Deathstalker, Junction Row, and The Muglur.

Written and directed by Mickey Reece (Climate of the Hunter, Mickey Reece’s Alien), Every Heavy Thing stars Josh Fadem (Twin Peaks, Better Call Saul, 30 Rock) as a mild-mannered ad salesperson for an online periodical, who witnesses a murder and spirals into paranoia.

He is drawn into a web of disappearances of local women, hallucinations, and high-tech intrigue, and his grip on reality and personal welfare unravels as he is forced to confront sinister forces and secrets hiding in plain sight.

The movie, which world premiered at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival over the summer, will make its European debut in Sitges’ Noves Visions strand

Fadem is joined in cast by Vera Drew (The People’s Joker, The Bling Ring), Barbara Crampton (From Beyond, You’re Next), James Urbaniak (Oppenheimer, The Fabelmans) and Tipper Newton (The Mindy Project, The Guest Book).

Producers of the feature are Kassie Gann, Peter Kuplowsky, Andrew Appleyard, and Moss, David Bond and Juan Pablo Reinoso for Firebook Entertainment. The company is also handling international sales and distribution for the film.

“This official launch of our production division highlights what Firebook does best: packaging, financing, and internationally distributing elevated genre features. Our model strategically leverages treaty co-productions, tax incentives, and festival launches to maximize investor ROI while protecting the creative integrity of each film,” said Moss.

“Every Heavy Thing represents exactly that approach, and we couldn’t be more excited to show our first original feature at Sitges – an ideal platform to showcase the kind of bold, globally resonant storytelling Firebook is built to champion.”

Firebook’s executive producing credits already include Deathstalker, the reimagining of the 1983 cult classic, which is being produced by Pasha Patriki of Hangar 18 Media and Raven Banner’s Michael Paszt. Raven Banner Entertainment and Shout! Studios are handling distribution, releasing the film across theatres in the U.S and Canada on 10th October.

Firebook’s current distribution slate includes psychological thriller Dirty Boy from writer-director Doug Rao, Izaac Ezban’s Párvulos: Children of the Apocalypse and the first Irish Gaelic language horror film, An Taibhse (The Ghost).
