The Cleveland Guardians are taking on the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, as the club hopes to earn its eighth win of the season. During the contest, first baseman Rhys Hoskins managed to accomplish a feat for the organization not seen since 2005.
Hoskins, who is 33 years old, recorded three doubles against the Royals. He becomes the first Guardians first baseman to hit three doubles in a single game since Ben Broussard did it in 2005, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. It just so happens Broussard also hit his three doubles in a single game against the Royals as well.
“Rhys Hoskins is the first Cleveland first baseman with three doubles in a game since Ben Broussard on Sept. 24, 2005,” reported Stebbins. “Coincidentally also against the Royals.”
On top of his three doubles, Hoskins has also recorded an RBI and a run. It is very much his best game of the 2026 season so far, as the nine-year veteran is proving to be a difference-maker for the Guardians on Wednesday.
Rhys Hoskins initially signed a minor league deal with Cleveland at the start of spring training. However, since he made the major league roster, he is playing the 2026 campaign on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. He is coming off a two-year, $34 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, who declined his 2026 option in the offseason.
Wednesday’s performance should be a nice bump in his season totals. Rhys Hoskins entered the contest against the Royals with a .174 batting average and .345 OBP with four hits and one RBI. It’s been a cold start, but perhaps his big game against Kansas City turns things around.
