Sherri Shepherd is giving Taylor Swift some serious advice when it comes to singing about her sex life with Travis Kelce.
Swift, as fans well know, is heavily theorized to be singing about her fiancé’s prowess in the bedroom on her new Life of a Showgirl track, “Wood.” (“Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see / His love was thе key that opened my thighs,” the pop superstar — who also croons she’s “ah-matized” — sings on the second verse of the risqué song. She seems to directly call out Travis by referencing his podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, referring to his “New Heights of manhood” on the track.)
Shepherd, for her part, gave Swift a blatant warning on the Monday, October 6 episode of her synonymous talk show.
“This is the thing, Taylor, from an auntie, I want to caution you because my momma always tells me: ‘Do not tell your girlfriends how good your man treats you. Do not tell your girlfriends how good your man is in bed,’” Shepherd, 58, said. “Because this is what happens— then all the girls might want them.”
The former View co-host, 58, proceeded to name two of Swift’s most prominent celebrity friends, joking that “Ice Spice and Sabrina Carpenter, they’re going to be like, ‘Hey, you got any extra tickets to the game, Taylor?’ Cause the next thing you know, your friends are running out to the field before you even get out there.”
Shepherd — who went on to praise Swift’s more adult lyrics on the Tuesday, October 7 episode of the talk show — also joked that “Wood” is giving her (Shepherd) “fantasies” about Travis.
“When Travis is catching passes [on the football field], I’m the ball,” the comedian quipped. “When Travis is running interference, he’s running right into me.”
As for what Swift had to say about the song, she recently told Jimmy Fallon that the tune “started out in a very innocent place,” referencing the common “knock on wood” superstition.
But as she described on The Morning Mash-Up, “Wood” for sure features its fair share of “double entendre”s — something Taylor claims that her mom, Andrea Swift, is in the dark about.
“I think that she thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions,” the 14-time Grammy winner said. “Which, which it absolutely is!”
