The internet’s favourite cratedigger, PinkPantheress, has returned with an all-star remix of her time-warping album, Fancy That, released earlier this year. Today’s release, fittingly titled Fancy Some More, unveils no less than 21 new songs across two digital discs, with the first focusing on pop vocalists, and the second on DJs and producers.

Indeed, if the original project travelled through time with choice samples drawing on the energy of raves gone by, then Fancy Some More warps dimensions with multiple overhauls of each track. Do you want a Baile Funk remix of 00s-sampling hit “Stars”, or a more muted version featuring rising K-pop princess Yves? Or would you rather the dirty luxury version courtesy of Fakemink, which was omitted from Fancy Some More’s official release but suspiciously leaked on SoundCloud yesterday (October 9)? You can really choose your own adventure here.

Still, with a staggering 31 tracks appearing on Fancy Some More, including the original nine cuts, it isn’t all smooth-sailing here. And, elsewhere, the sailing is a little too smooth. Oklou, JADE and Bladee’s appearances all fall short of the big ‘wow’ moment that fans would be expecting of a collaboration with PinkPantheress (sorry, we still love you guys!). Then there’s Hot Chip producer Joe Goddard’s take on “Tonight”, which sounds like listening to the original on a Bluetooth speaker while being rudely interrupted by a cruise ship’s foghorn – pass. But, for the most part, today’s release delivers some heat, with some remixes even looking likely to depose the originals.

Below, we rank our five favourite features from PinkPantheress’ new remix album, Fancy Some More.

Despite being the only track released ahead of today (officially, at least), Nia Archives’ explosive drum ‘n’ bass remix of “Illegal”’s whimsical original still holds its own. This marks the pair’s second collaboration, following Nia’s remix of “Nineteen” off PP’s debut album back in 2022, and they’re still a match made in heaven. Both artists made their names transplanting the energy of British raves into a modern musical context, and it’s hard not to get swept away in the driving breaks of this record.

And here’s another drum ‘n’ bass banger. It’s long been recognised that Americans don’t rap well over grime and drum ‘n’ bass, so there’s something incredibly satisfying about watching JT not only give it a go, but actually smash it on “Noises”, which collages samples of Groove Armada’s “Suntoucher” and Florida gangster rapper Nardo Wick’s “Who Want Smoke?” over a new and improved break beat. JT just might have rewritten history with this one.

Despite not actually appearing on Fancy Some More’s official release, this Fakemink remix of 00s pop-flipping cut “Stars” just had to be included here. Speculation of a collaboration between PP and Mink had long been swirling since they were pictured together at Mechatok’s Natural Mind event earlier this year, and it seems there was actually some substance behind it. Mink gives a rare glimpse behind the braggadocio in lyrics that bemoan him not being enough for a significant other, while PP’s happy-go-lucky delivery forms a lighthearted contrast to the former’s devil-may-care attitude. MinkPantheress FTW.

And here’s more stars – in both senses. This Brazilian remix featuring bruxaria funk DJs Caio Prince and Adame just has that je ne sais quoi (or, should we say, eu não sei o que). Moving from funk’s signature off-beat bounce, to the techno-hip-hop beats often heard at Brazil’s favela parties, there’s an infectious energy to this remix that just beats out the Fakemink version.

Of all the star-studded features on Fancy Some More, Swedish child star Zara Larsson’s anthemic take on “Stateside” stands a cut above the rest. As Larsson bursts in with the standout lyric “I’ve been touring stateside, kissing my Swedish boy over FaceTime”, there’s a gravity to this remix that is lacking from some of the other pop appearances. Here, Larsson and PinkPantheress deliver a collaboration that is greater than the sum of the original’s parts.
