Pulp Fiction, Despicable Me and Barbie, all films that have become exquisite dance numbers during Strictly Come Dancing‘s famous movie night. This weekend, Saturday, October 11, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer we’ll see this year’s celebs take on the themed week with their interpretations of iconic films.
Audiences have plenty to look forward to this weekend, including a special Wicked performance from the professionals and the addition of the show’s first ever Guest Mentor. Academy Award-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo, known for her role in Wicked as Elphaba, will be assisting the stars with their performances.

The BBC have said: “The red carpet is rolled out for the first theme week of the series; it’s Movie Night in the ballroom. Something wicked comes this way, as our pros pay homage to one of the highest grossing movie-musicals of all time, before our couples perform routines celebrating some of the best-loved films from across cinema history.
“As they do their best to impress the Judges and you at home, Academy-Award nominated, Hollywood superstar, Cynthia Erivo is on hand to help our couples deliver blockbuster performances. Whose routine will be a Box Office smash?”

Pro dancer Katya Jones said: “Get ready for pure magic with this week’s group number inspired by the new Wicked: For Good movie.
“This routine is certainly driven by the story of this forbidden love, and two characters expressing that love for each other for the very first time.
“The costumes are bigger, greener and the storytelling is what’s going to keep you on the edge of your seats.”
Amy Dowden added: “There’s a section at the end where, all of us together are performing quite a big lift sequence. So for us to get it together is very difficult.”
Choreographer Jason Gilkinson said: “I didn’t want to single out one person to be Elphaba, and so I thought it might be a really nice take if every single girl and every single guy got to play Elphaba and Fiyero.”

This arrives ahead of the sequel, Wicked: For Good, which will conclude the story of Elphaba, played by Cynthia, opposite Ariana Grande as Glinda.
The BBC revealed earlier this week that the programme will feature a performance by the professional dancers, set to “As Long As You’re Mine”. The song will appear in the forthcoming film which is launching in UK cinemas on Friday, November 21.

This is not Cynthia’s first appearance on the show, as she debuted as a substitute judge in 2021, stepping in for Craig Revel Horwood who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was self-isolating.
She joined the judging panel, which included Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke, for the ninth and tenth weeks of the series.
On this occasion, Cynthia is making a comeback for just one week as Strictly’s inaugural guest mentor.
She will assist the 14 remaining Strictly couples in channelling their inner film stars through coaching sessions during rehearsals and in the studio on the evening itself, where she will be seated alongside the judging panel.

A BBC spokesperson revealed: “For this year’s movie week, Strictly will welcome back the wickedly talented Cynthia Erivo, star of one of last year’s biggest movies!”.
“Cynthia has been nominated for three Oscars – most recently this year for playing Elphaba in Wicked – and has already won Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards.
“Cynthia was a guest judge on Strictly for two weeks in 2021, covering for Craig Revel Horwood and then Motsi Mabuse. She received praise from viewers for her insightful, supportive feedback and memorably gave her comments to Rose Ayling-Ellis in British Sign Language.”
You can watch Strictly Come Dancing’s movie night on Saturday, October 11 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6.05pm. The results show will then air on Sunday, October 12, on the channel at 7.15pm.
