While celebrity tributes have poured in for Diane Keaton, who died on Oct. 11, stars also couldn’t help but speak highly of the actress before her death.
In an interview on Kylie Kelce’s podcast over the summer, actress Mandy Moore said that her favorite rom-com that she’s done was Because I Said So where Keaton played her mother.
“I love Because I Said So, it’s this film I did with Diane Keaton,” she said. “I mean its Diane Keaton, she’s just like, on a pedestal to me, it was such a bucket list experience.”
In the 2007 film, also starring Gabriel Macht and Lauren Graham, Keaton’s character, Daphne Wilder, medals in the dating life of her daughter Milly, played by Moore, claiming to have her best interests in mind.
Moore also took to Instagram following Keaton’s death and referred to her as her “hero.”
“They say don’t meet your heros [sic] ]but I got to work with one of mine and even call her ‘mom’ for a few months,” Moore wrote. “An honor of a lifetime. What an incandescent human Di is and was. I am so sad she’s gone for all the reasons but also because it felt like she’d be here forever, dazzling us with her talent and charm (and her style, c’mon)!!! One of the very best to ever do it. All my love to her children and loved ones.”

In an interview with Collider at the time of the film’s release, Keaton also spoke about how she loved working with Moore.
“I love Mandy,” she said. “The thing about Mandy is, what I really love about her, she’s just a little workhorse, like a filly out there. She loves to work and you can see her progress as an actress. She’s a very emotional actress but she’s funny, she’s adorable and she’s beautiful to look at. In this movie she looks to me like Claudia Cardinale. She’s got this gorgeous face. It’s going to be really interesting to watch her in life. I think she’s going to be really surprising.”
Keaton was of course no stranger to romantic comedies with the feel-good type of film sprinkled throughout her career — from the 1970s with Annie Hall to the 1990s with First Wives Club and the 2000s with Something’s Gotta Give.
The late actress died at 79 years old and is survived by her two children Dexter and Duke.
