Journey’s Jonathan Cain is looking ahead after announcing his plans to wrap up his long-running career with the iconic group.

Cain, who joined the band in 1981 and helped co-write “Don’t Stop Believin’,” shared in an interview on The Strang Report last week (Oct. 2) that he believes that he’ll say goodbye to Journey after an upcoming farewell tour.

“We go on the Journey tour in 2026, our farewell Journey tour, so I’ll be saying goodbye to that,” Cain said on the podcast, adding that he will most likely move into ministry and worship music.

The announcement seemed to be news to bandmate Neal Schon, who took to social media to share Cain’s comments — and clarify that Journey had no plans to stop touring.

“Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight. I’m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead!” Schon wrote on X on Thursday evening (Oct. 9). “I’m sure we will have a great tour !”

Amid news of Cain’s future departure, Schon also shared the clip from the podcast and added, “We will be touring with Jon all through 26-27 celebrating the music we’ve created.”

While the news seemed to be confusing to fans, a spokesperson for Journey further explained the situation, noting that Cain would still remain with the band for the next several years.

“Jonathan Cain remains an active member of Journey, and any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. He is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years and has only expressed plans to retire at a later time,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline.

The news comes amid a years-long rift between Cain and Schon, who each own 50% of Journey and have battled it out in court amid corporate and musical disagreements.

You can hear all that Jonathan Cain said on the podcast below.
