Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 just announced the full cast for its sequel, and some of the additions blew fans away. Two of the most surprising announcements are Megan Fox as Toy Chica and the incredibly popular YouTuber MatPat as the voice of Toy Bonnie. This is incredibly surprising since MatPat largely grew his YouTube audience based on his coverage of the FNAF games. In a completely full circle moment, MatPat is now playing a large part in bringing the characters to the silver screen.
The first film wasn’t received well by critics, but made a ton of money at the box office. Many fans praised the horror alumni Matthew Lillard’s performance as the infamous “Purple Guy.” Given his passion for both horror and the franchise itself, his amazing performance will likely continue into the sequel. Josh Hutcherson also did an admirable job at bringing the horrifying animatronics to life. His genuinely terrified reactions are a large part of what makes the overall film work so well. While MatPat won’t be acting physically alongside them, it will be interesting to see how he plays off the other actors.
The sequel will cover the animatronics’ origins in greater detail while greatly raising the stakes for the first film. While sequels typically aren’t as popular as the original, they usually perform better at the box office. However, the film is making one key mistake concerning its release date.
Instead of coming out in October, as would be expected of a horror film, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will release on December 5th. Although this could save the film from the overinflation of the horror genre that surrounds the season, it is also failing to capitalize on the Halloween hype. Many fans have theorized that production issues probably kept the film from releasing when it was originally planned. It’s also possible that getting Megan Fox and MatPat to perform their voice roles took longer than expected.
Disastrous release date aside, MatPat’s involvement in the film could make it even more profitable than the original. Given MatPat’s relationship with the franchise overall, many fans might go see the movie solely based on his involvement. Nevertheless, he probably only has a small role in terms of the overall film. After all, Toy Bonnie is one of several animatronics and he isn’t even the most popular.
