Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has posted a touching throwback photo as a tribute to Diane Keaton, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 79.
Those close to the legendary star confirmed on Saturday, October 11, that the beloved actor had passed away.
The 50-year-old reflected on his time working alongside Diane in the 1996 movie Marvin’s Room.
Leo shared a photo on social media from that era when he was just 18 years old.
Accompanying the image, Leo wrote: “Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Brilliant, funny, and unapologetically herself, she was a legend, icon, and truly kind human being. I had the honor of working with her at 18. She will be deeply missed.”
The Academy Award-winning performer was most celebrated for her roles in classics like The Godfather, Annie Hall, The First Wives Club and Something’s Got To Give.
Keaton also collaborated with filmmaker Nancy Meyers on numerous occasions, including projects like the Book Club franchise.
Sources have since revealed that her inner circle reportedly had no indication her health had deteriorated significantly in the months prior to her death. A close friend of Diane’s revealed to PEOPLE Magazine: “She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”
The insider continued: “In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”
Several celebrity pals have taken to social media to pay their respects to the star. Broadcaster Piers Morgan was one of the first to express his condolences as news of her death emerged.
The former Good Morning Britain host shared with his Twitter (X) followers: “RIP Diane Keaton, 79. Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall, brilliant in The Godfather and Father of the Bride movies. One of Hollywood’s greatest actresses, and a delightful lady. Sad news.”
Singer and actress Nancy Sinatra was also among the A-listers offering heartfelt tributes to Diane. In her tribute, she described Diane’s passing as a “heartbreaking loss” and referred to her as a “very special person”.
