On Saturday Night Live (SNL), Aubrey Plaza appeared in a fake trailer for Season 2 of The Hunting Wives. This sketch, which aired during Amy Poehler’s hosting episode, humorously parodied the Netflix show with its outrageous and steamy take on the upcoming season.
SNL just dropped a funny Hunting Wives Season 2 trailer
In true SNL fashion, the sketch reimagined Netflix’s steamy Southern drama The Hunting Wives as what the show jokingly called a “straight but lesbian, horny Republican murder drama.” Aubrey Plaza appeared as the “new new girl” from California who shakes up the group’s dynamic in the wildest way possible.
The trailer featured Amy Poehler as Margo (originally played by Malin Akerman), who makes her entrance by flashing her chest at Chloe Fineman’s Sophie (Brittany Snow’s character in the Netflix series). As the narrator teases, “All your faves are back and they’re as naughty as ever. Thighs will be squeezed, guns will be drawn.”
As scenes of rifle-wielding women and mimosa brunches played out, the narrator added, “People Magazine writes, it’s like Call Me By Your Name for women who shop at Bass Pro Shop.” Then Aubrey Plaza shows up with all the hunting wives fawning over her until she mentions she has a girlfriend. They immediately pull out their guns, ending the Hunting Wives Season 2 trailer with an ultimate spoof.
The stars of Netflix’s The Hunting Wives loved the spoof just as much as fans did. Malin Akerman, who plays Margo Banks, reposted the clip on Instagram with the caption, “Omg @nbcsnl this is the best thing I’ve ever seen !!! Hunting wives Season 2 premiere (?!) Yessssss!!!!!” Jaime Ray Newman, who plays Callie, shared it on her stories, writing, “SNL?!?!? Mind officially BLOWN.” The sketch even poked fun at the show’s infamous wigs, with a line noting that the hairpieces are “doing their best.”
All in all, with SNL only two episodes into its new season, this standout sketch has already set a high bar for comedy, leaving fans hoping for another Aubrey Plaza hosting gig in the near future.
