Former Beach Boys legend died back in June, but the pain is still very fresh for his former bandmates.
And we know that because of situations such as Sunday’s concert in Napa, California. Beach Boys singer Mike Love paused the show to pay tribute to Wilson, and he simply could not contain his emotion.
“We want you to see this,” Love told the audience. “We lost Brian earlier this year, but he will always be in our hearts, it’s like he is still here.”
Love wiped away tears as he spoke, and Parade Magazine reported that photos of Wilson were shown on a screen behind the band.
The group reportedly “played all of their hit songs,” with Love’s son, Christian, joining him on several songs. The Daily Mail reported that fellow Beach Boys member Bruce Johnston was at the show along with Brian Eichenberger, Tim Bonhomme, Jon Bolton, Keith Hubacher, Randy Leago and John Wedemeyer.
Wilson died on June 11. He was 82.
“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away,” his family wrote on Instagram then. “We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.”
Wilson’s wife, Melinda, died early last year, and two weeks later the family announced he was battling a neurocognitive disorder likened to dementia.

“My heart is broken,” a post to Wilson’s X account read then. “Melinda, my beloved wife of 28 years, passed away this morning. Our five children and I are just in tears. We are lost. Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior. She gave me the emotional security I needed to have a career.
“She encouraged me to make the music that was closest to my heart,” the post added. “She was my anchor. She was everything for us. Please say a prayer for her. Love and Mercy, Brian.”
