Actress Nicole Kidman may be relocating to Portugal in the near future. Earlier this year, the actress filed for divorce from Keith Urban, following months of living apart.
Now, it appears she may want to place an entire ocean between them, as she has reportedly submitted an application for Portuguese residency. She filed her paperwork with the European nation’s immigration authorities in July.
At that time, it sparked speculation about her marriage’s stability, since Keith’s name was notably absent from the documentation. But their split and divorce proceedings have since been officially confirmed.
According to insiders familiar with the couple, Nicole and Keith weren’t cohabitating for the majority of the summer, despite marking their 19th wedding anniversary at the end of June. Nicole was reportedly battling to save the marriage, but Keith was “done” and his circle believed their divorce was “inevitable”.
Consequently, when the divorce was officially filed in a Nashville courthouse, a custody arrangement was already established, with Nicole designated as the primary guardian of their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, for the bulk of the year. Thus, should she relocate to Portugal, she would likely bring them along.
And if the family of three makes the move, they’ll find themselves among elite company, as Nicole is reportedly considering a property in an upscale development known as the Costaterra Golf and Ocean Club, where numerous A-list celebrities already own homes. Celebrity residents at the exclusive resort located just south of Lisbon include Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, George Clooney, Paris Hilton and Princess Eugenie.
Reports suggest Harry and Meghan dropped $4.7 million on their oceanfront property last year. The A-list development was created by Mike Meldman, who co-founded George Clooney’s tequila brand Casamigos.
He purchased the 72-acre site in 2019 with a massive $435 million investment. Nicole traveled to Portugal in July, as the nation mandates a face-to-face appointment at their immigration residency office. Keith’s absence was attributed to his touring schedule during that period.

The relocation caught many off guard, considering all the pair’s other real estate holdings were located in the US or Australia, Nicole’s homeland.
It remains unknown who will receive which residence in the divorce proceedings, but currently, the duo jointly possess properties across Tennessee, New York, California, Sydney and New South Wales. Based on their extensive real-estate holdings, reports indicate they have $282 million in assets to split.
In a Harper’s Bazaar interview published last Thursday (9 October), Nicole alluded to her marriage’s conclusion, revealing she had “survived a lot.”
“As I get older, I want to be able to share and impart the things I’ve learned. I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, and I’ve survived a lot,” she revealed. She later expressed that “the experiences that you’ve accumulated” are the best part of aging.
“So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now.’ Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.'”.
Many speculated she was alluding to her shocking divorce from Tom Cruise, which left her heartbroken, but may have equipped her with the resilience to deal with current challenges. She concluded, “There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through. You’re going to have to feel it.”
