“The Mastermind,” a star-studded crime drama filmed entirely in Cincinnati in 2024, will finally hit the big screen this week.
The movie was invited to the prestigious international Cannes Film Festival in May, and was among the 22 feature films competing for the festival’s highest honor: the Palme d’Or. Although the film didn’t win, its release has been highly anticipated.

What is ‘The Mastermind’ about?
“The Mastermind,” written and directed by Kelly Reichardt, follows an art heist that occurs “amidst the backdrop of the Vietnam War,” Deadline reports. The film stars Josh O’Connor, known for his roles in “The Challengers,” “Doctor Who” and “Peaky Blinders,” and “Licorice Pizza” star Alana Haim, a member of the pop-rock trio Haim.
According to World of Reel, O’Connor plays James Mooney, the person who orchestrates the art heist during the country’s “burgeoning women’s liberation movement.”

“The Mastermind” is set to release in theaters on Friday, Oct. 17.
