An expansion to the Downtown Tucker Entertainment District got the green light during Tuesday’s Tucker City Council meeting.
During the Oct. 14 meeting, council unanimously approved the expansion of the district to include the Tucker Town Green, which is slated to open next month. The district was first created in 2022 to allow Tucker businesses within the district with a consumption on-premises alcohol license to serve beverages that can be enjoyed outside, with a special sticker on the cups.
Courtney Smith, community development director for the city, said the goal is to enhance the vibrancy and street life in downtown Tucker.
“People can frequent our businesses, get some food, get an adult beverage, an alcoholic beverage, leave that premise and go into the Tucker Town Green, which is just a beautiful space,” she said during Tuesday’s meeting.
District 3 Councilwoman Alexis Weaver questioned whether expanding the boundary is enough to invite more residents and businesses to take part in the nightlife incentive.
“I don’t necessarily see a lot of participation in it,” Weaver said of the entertainment district. “How are we keeping the retailers and the restaurants up to date about the fact that this is not just for festivals?”
Smith said there are efforts to better inform businesses that will likely “accelerate” once the Town Green opens on Nov. 14.

Other Tucker City Council updates:
● Mayor Frank Auman confirmed during the meeting that the Town Green, an $8.6 million project near Main Street, will open “on time and under budget.” City officials confirmed that construction on the site is expected to be complete by Oct. 24. The Town Green grand opening is planned 4-7 p.m. Nov. 14, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place at 6 p.m. that evening.
● Council announced a joint public information open house on the Tucker Connects Transportation and Transit Master Plan and Revive L29, Lawrenceville Highway Access Management and Beautification Study. The meeting is planned for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Tucker City Hall, 1975 Lakeside Parkway, Suite 350. This will be the last public meeting to provide feedback on plans for the project.
●Council approved the first read and held a public hearing of an Ordinance for RZ-25-003 to amend four conditions of zoning related to a rental townhome development at 2245 Northlake Parkway. The owners requested zoning changes to construct for-sale/owner-occupied townhomes at the property.
