Lauren Sanchez Shares Emotional Statement After Reports She & Jeff Bezos Are Going to Court For Money: ‘It’s Time’

Lauren Sánchez has found herself in the spotlight ever since she and Jeff Bezos got married in a lavish ceremony in Venice. It’s partly because the ceremony was attended by a who’s who of celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah, and the Kardashians. But it’s also because the rumors about her kept swirling after. Would Bezos buy Vogue for Sánchez? Was she writing another book? Did her wedding dress really get stolen?

Now, Sánchez is speaking up about an issue that has marked her life. To commemorate World Dyslexia Day, the former journalist opened up about her experience and the struggles of not being diagnosed early enough. Alongside a video of her as a kid, she said, “That’s me in the back of the class, smile on, praying I wouldn’t get called to read.”

She added, “My brain didn’t fail, the playbook did.” She said, as the video showcased how 1 in 5 kids struggle with dyslexia. “If your child is working twice as hard to look like they’re keeping up, it’s time to ask about screening,” she also said.

This is far from the first time the former journalist has spoken about the subject. In a 2024 interview on Good Morning America, Sánchez explained that she was never diagnosed during school. Her children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, was inspired by her own experiences as a child.

“It’s for the eight-year-old self me, who really felt dumb,” she said in the interview. “I sat in the back of the class. I was just quiet. They kind of pushed me along in public school, and I kept going.”

Sánchez also shared that, back then, her dream job as a journalist didn’t seem possible. “I really, really wanted to be a journalist, it’s all I wanted to be, and I thought, I can’t write, it was horrible.”

But in college, a teacher encouraged her to write for the school newspaper. She recalled responding, “I can’t really write.” Then came the advice that would change everything for her. “Just write without thinking about spelling or punctuation.” When she turned in the assignment, the teacher knew. “I don’t remember what the story was about. She literally looked at me after I turned it in, and she was like, ‘You are not dumb, you just can’t spell,’ and she got me tested for dyslexia.”

She went on to make a career as a journalist and publish a children’s book, with a second one, titled The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea, coming in 2026. The book will once again feature Flynn, the curious fly from her first book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, which was released in 2024. This time, the story will revolve around Flynn’s time on an underwater journey, while he learns all about marine life and how amazing and endangered oceans are.

This comes after a recent update on the legal battle Sánchez and Bezos are involved in with her estranged brother, Michael Sánchez. Page Six reported that their legal team filed a motion in California Superior Court demanding that Michael Sánchez pay $182,374 in attorney’s fees and $8,182 in legal costs, “incurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney’s Fees and Costs.”

All of this is related to reports of an affair between Bezos and Sánchez, which first surfaced while she was still married to Patrick Whitesell. At the time, there was a suggestion that her brother was responsible. He denied it and then sued for defamation, but the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in Bezos’s favor. Bezos then requested that legal fees be covered by Michael Sánchez.
