Meghan Markle had a simple three-word instruction for how she should be addressed by an Invictus Games staff member. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled to Canada last February for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
Scott Moore was appointed as the new CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 last year, tasked with overseeing the organization’s inaugural winter event. In the lead-up to the event, Mr. Moore shared his experience meeting the couple, who stepped back from their Royal duties in 2020.
He revealed that he had inquired about the proper way to address them. According to him, the Duchess said, “Ma’am is fine” as he previously told the Daily Mail. It comes after ‘disturbed’ Prince William got angry with Meghan Markle over missing Princess Diana diamonds.
Similarly, a straightforward “Sir” was acceptable for addressing the Duke of Sussex.
He shared with the media outlet in February of the previous year, “I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here, and I was told the simple sir and ma’am is fine.”
Typically, male members of the Royal Family are first addressed as “Your Royal Highness” followed by “Sir,” while female members are initially referred to as “Your Royal Highness” and then “Ma’am,” reports the Express.
Harry and Meghan have since ceased to be working members of the Firm.
Despite this, they continue to hold their full Royal titles, including their HRH styles; however, they have agreed not to use them for commercial purposes following their departure, in accordance with agreements made with the royals.
This isn’t the first time reports have surfaced regarding how Harry and Meghan prefer to be addressed.
Just one month prior to this year’s Invictus Games, Vanity Fair published a shocking cover story containing various claims about the Sussex pair, including allegations that some of their former employees were required to address them as sir or ma’am, despite their non-working Royal status.
The article stated: “Some people familiar with the production of Archetypes and Harry’s book tour said they were instructed to address the couple as sir or ma’am, though the request was dropped in one instance after the person pushed back. (Other people say they were encouraged by Harry and Meghan to call them by their first names.)”
