During The Boy is Mine tour, Brandy left the stage unannounced in the middle of a performance with Monica, and now the Missing You singer has shared the reason for her abrupt exit
Brandy has broken her silence and revealed the real reason she walked off stage during her last performance with Monica.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Grammy winner, 46, was in the middle of a concert in Chicago when she abruptly left the stage. Much of her audience initially believed her exit to be due to sound issues, after a few heard her say, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my….”
However, they were left confused when she never returned, and Monica performed the rest of the set by herself, including their hit 1998 single The Boy Is Mine.

The singer has now spoken out to set the record straight. The following day, Brandy took to Instagram with a message to her “dear fans in Chicago.”
She began, “Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers.
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago,” she said, before revealing, “After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint.”
“Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” Brandy mentioned. “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay.”
Despite her efforts to go on, the “adjustments” and “technical” aspects of the show made it “impossible to fully connect sonically with the production.”
Nonetheless, she is appreciative of “everyone’s best efforts,” especially her singing partner. “I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” Brandy applauded.
The singer went on to assure her fans she is in a better state of mind after receiving medical care after the show.
“I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward,” she shared.
Brandy concluded, “I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis.”
The incident occurred during the third day of their The Boy is Mine tour. The two will be joined on the road by Kelly Rowland, Coco Jones, Muni Long, and Jamal Roberts.
Brandy and Monica announced they were going on tour together earlier this year to commemorate their hit duet The Boy Is Mine which topped the R&B charts during the 1990s.
Shortly after the track was released in 1998, the two famously had a fight while rehearsing for the MTV Video Music Awards. After their fallout, Brandy and Monica went years without speaking.
The two began to reconcile in the early 2010s. They are now using their tour as a “celebration of growth” and “sisterhood.”
