Adam Clayton
How much would you be willing to pay to become the proud owner of a guitar played by U2 ‘Ace Bass’ Adam Clayton?
If finances won’t quite allow such an investment, U2 fanatics will have the opportunity to check out instruments belonging to the 22-time Grammy award winning artist, at an exclusive three-week exhibition celebrating the legendary U2 musician.
Before these items belonging to the co-founder of the band end up on the walls of those who have more figures in their bank balance than most people have had hot dinners, they will be displayed at The Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre from October 20 – November 9.
The items in the exhibition will then travel to Nashville for a live and online showing, by the iconic Julien’s Auctions, taking place November 20 and 21, at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.
In total, over 20 items from Adam Clayton’s personal collection, including instruments and gear, will be offered for the first time at the prestigious auction.
Founded in 2003 by Darren Julien, Julien’s Auction is a leading auction house for pop culture memorabilia, handling collections from high-profile celebrities in the world of music, film and art.
Mr Clayton’s 18 piece collection of guitars will join the likes of Marilyn Monroe’s dresses, Michael Jackson’s Thriller jacket, John Lennon’s guitar and Bruce Springsteen’s handwritten lyrics of hit track ‘Born To Run’ – all items that have been shown at the auction.
The guitars have an estimated value of between $20,000-$60,000 each, with some of the noteworthy bass guitars featured in the exhibition including those played by Clayton on the ‘Vertigo’ and ‘Innocence + Experience’ tours.
Originally from the UK, Adam Clayton played bass guitar alongside Bono in U2 – a band that have sold over 170 million records worldwide since their inception in 1976, making them one of the world’s best-selling music artists.
The band who met in Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, are currently recording new music.
